Bellevue makes new offer to striking teachers

The Bellevue School District has given its striking teachers a new proposal in an attempt the two-week strike.

Regarding the Curriculum Web, the district has accepted the Memorandum of Understanding language proposed by the union regarding the flexibility teachers will have in using the curriculum, housed on the web, to meet the needs of all students.

On the issue of pay, the district has increased its three-year offer for supplemental compensation to 5 percent in addition to COLA as follows: 2008-09, 1.5%; 2009-10, 1.5%; 2010-11, 2.0%.

The district also will contribute $1,000,000 to the benefit for health coverage to help offset employee out-of-pocket costs for the three years of the contract.

Negotiations were continuing Friday.
