Bellevue homeowner injured in Labor Day fire after forgetting to turn off grill

A Lakemont resident was injured in a fire late Monday night that spread from a backyard shed to the home.

A Lakemont resident was injured in a fire late Monday night that spread from a backyard shed to the home.

One of the homeowners of a residence in the 4500 block of 165th Ave. SE received superficial burns after a fire that originated near a shed in his backyard spread to his home. In was later determined that the homeowner had forgottong to turn off the propane tank on his grill after making dinner outside. The homeowner was burned while attempting to put of the blaze with his garden hose.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire. There was significant damage to the shed, fence and deck, but the home was relatively undamaged, according to the Bellevue Fire Department.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation at press time.
