Investigators think a Bellevue man was high on heroin and speeding along Highway 529 when his truck rolled Friday evening, ejecting a passenger.

The man, 54, is being held for investigation of vehicular homicide and being involved in a hit-and-run crash. No charges have been filed as of Tuesday, June 25.

So far, no details have been released about his passenger, other than that he was tossed through a window of a Ford Explorer after it struck a guard rail and rolled. He died at the scene, his body coming to rest in the highway.

The Bellevue man now in the Snohomish County Jail is believed to have been driving the Explorer. He’s being held on $75,000 bail.

Witnesses said the vehicle was speeding and weaving along northbound Highway 529 before striking the guard rail. It rolled and came to rest on its tires.

The driver tried to leave, but crashed a second time a short distance away, police were told. When officers reached him, he had a deep cut on his left arm, along with and bumps and bruises.

The man said he was not in pain, and had difficulty remaining awake, according to the police report. Officers sought a blood draw at the hospital, suspecting him of being under the influence of heroin.
