Bellevue continues superintendent search

The Bellevue School District is taking the next step toward hiring a new superintendent this weekend, holding a special meeting on Saturday, May 19, from 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Bellevue School District is taking the next step toward hiring a new superintendent this weekend, holding a special meeting on Saturday, May 19, from 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. This special meeting will consist of a closed Executive Session in which the Board of Director’s will interview the remaining seven candidates from 8 a.m. to 5:25 p.m.

Following the day-long session, the Board will convene into an open session which the public may attend; at this point, the Board may identify the three finalists for the position of Superintendent who will take part in the finalists interviews scheduled for May 22, 23 and 24.

While the majority of Saturday’s meeting will be closed to the public, there will be several opportunities in the coming days for parents, staff and community members to get involved. During next week’s day-long interviews, the final three candidates will be involved in open community forums, smaller closed focus group meetings, Board interviews and the involvement of a Community Observer Panel. The forums listed below will be open to the public:

The ten-member Community Observer Panel will observe the Board of Director’s evening interview with the finalist and provide written and verbal feedback to the Board concerning the finalist’s strengths and areas of concern.  While the Panel’s purpose is not to make a recommendation for hire, they will be asked to provide the Board with additional perspectives.

The Community Forums have been specifically scheduled to allow several opportunities for community members to meet and observe candidates. As such, feedback will be welcome. Anyone who would like to take part in the forum should submit questions in advance via the district’s website (http://www.bsd405.org/).

In addition to attending the community forums, parents can enter a lottery to be part of the Community Observer Panel. Members of the Panel must commit to participating in all three days of the panel from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 22, 23 and 24.  Interested parties should e-mail Jacque Coe at coej@bsd405.org or call 425-456-4000 with their name, address, phone and the school their child attends by noon on Friday, May 18.

Those unable to attend the evening community forums will be able to watch videos of each candidate speaking at the forum. Videos will be posted on the district’s website the following day, with the option to send feedback to the Board at board@bsd405.org.
