Around 300 people showed up for a Tax Day Tea Party rally April 15 at the plaza in front of Bellevue City Hall.
Many of the participants wore costumes and carried props. One dragged a knee-high ball with chain while carrying a sign that read: Obama spoke, now I’m broke.
Speakers at the event included Washington State Republican Party Chairman Luke Esser, who criticized state government for raising taxes and spending beyond its means.
“The real truth about taxes is that they’re too high,” Esser said. “You are not a unique spirit created by God, you are an ATM machine.”
Similar Tea Party demonstrations took place throughout the state, including larger rallies in Olympia, Seattle, Spokane and Everett.
The Bellevue rally made clear that Senate hopefuls are lining up to take on Patty Murray next fall. Seven people at the event said they plan to run against the U.S. Senator this fall.
