Two teams from Bellevue placed in the top 10 for their respective challenges at the Destination ImagiNation Global Finals competition, which was held May 22-26 in Knoxville, Tenn.
At the secondary level, the team known as Da Improvs earned a second-place trophy in the scientific challenge, “The Solar Stage.” Team members are Diane Halcoussis of Eastside Prep, Kyle Marshall of University Prep, Nate Olson of Overlake High School, Akshay Srivatsan of Lakeside High School, and Hannah Ziuzin of Newport High School. They presented a solution that featured a solar powered Stirling engine and a Film Noir style drama.
From Medina Elementary, “Dudes With Awesome Shades” took 6th place in their division of the fine arts challenge “Coming Attractions.” Highlights of their solution included an original composition for the soundtrack of their movie trailer, and a team-created snowman costume.
A total of 1,276 teams from 45 states, seven Canadian provinces and 13 countries made Destination Imagination Global Finals the largest celebration and competition of creativity and problem-solving skills of its kind.
