Traditional Jewish food finds a home in at Goldbergs’

Raised on traditional Jewish deli food, Matthew Stahl, the manager of Goldbergs’ Famous Delicatessen in Bellevue knows a thing or two about authentic deli-style food.

Goldbergs’ Deli first opened in Factoria Mall in 2005 by founders, Steve Goldberg and Bill Goldberg, two friends with a common fondness for deli food but no family relation. Steve has since gone his separate way, but Goldbergs’ Deli still remains the true-to-the-East Coast deli.

To bring the traditional deli experience, Goldbergs’ ships in corned beef, pastrami, salami, and smoked fish from the East Coast.

Reporter: What sets Goldbergs’ Deli apart from the rest?

Stahl: We want to give you that great deli experience that you haven’t had before. There are some places around the area that may have some corned beef sandwich options, but we are the only full-service deli like this in the area.

Reporter: What’s with the stacks of meat?

Stahl: A lot of times, if you go to a sandwich place, they will have pre-portioned items of meat, but not here. We put five times the amount on our sandwiches. A lot of times people end up splitting a single sandwich because it’s so much food.

In a true East Coast deli, its all about the meat. We don’t use off-the-shelf items. We provide authentic food.

Reporter: What’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Stahl: The sky’s the limit as far as selection. If you can find it on our menu we will put it together for you.

For breakfast, Stahl suggests the Bobka French Toast made with freshly baked cinnamon bread $7.95 or the Corned Beef Hash with two Poached Eggs ($8.95). For lunch, he points to the Hot Corned Beef ($11.75) and for dinner he insists on one of the Goldbergs’ Combination Sandwiches, the Roast Brisket ($10.75), served with havarti cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo on challah. He also swears by Goldbergs’ Famous Hot Reuben ($12.95) with the corned beef and pastrami combo.

The extensive menu also includes a slew of appetizers including Stuffed Cabbage ($12.95), Brisket and Latkes $12.95), and Cheese Blintz ($3.50), a sweetened farmer’s cheese crepe, pan-fried golden brown, served hot with sour cream and blueberries.

“Anything with the brisket is great; we use it in our phillies and in our beef sandwiches,” Stahl said.
