Omega Photo will host an exhibit, “Black and White,” by award-winning photographer Steven Windell during February. Through his photography Windell seeks to evoke emotions of harmony, spirit and love by challenging a person’s perceptions of reality.
What is unusual is that his work is not enhanced by computer technology and relies on a direct connection with nature and composition to elicit response of the viewer. He strives to suggest a “beyond which connects to the soul” in each of his pictures.
Windell swims against the tide of current photography trends by shooting his pictures on film vs. digital and by favoring black and white over color. For him, black and white is an unforgiving medium that demands a kind of perfection, which comes from honing composition. Color can hide or diminish errors in a way that black and white cannot, he said.
Omega Photo is located at 1100 Bellevue Way NE. The store is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
