Newport High School drama presents ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Performance will run Jan. 12 through Jan. 20 in Bellevue.

“Be Our Guest!” as Newport High School brings Disney’s award-winning “Beauty and the Beast” to life Jan. 12 through Jan. 21.

This stage musical is based on the 1991 film version, the first-ever animated film to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. The film itself was based on the classic French fairy tale of a haughty prince, transformed into a hideous beast, and the young woman with whom he falls in love. Enchanted objects and passionate humans fill the stage in colorful, musical classics including Human Again¸ Belle and Beauty and the Beast, delighting audiences with the humor and magic of one of Disney’s all-time best productions.

Newport audiences will recognize seniors Mitchell Murray, whose extraordinary voice dazzled as Jean Valjean in 2016’s “Les Miserables,” as the Beast, and Julie Guinasso, a 2017 Fifth Avenue High School Musical Theatre Awards Outstanding Actress nominee for her turn as Adelaide in “Guys and Dolls,” as the beloved Mrs. Potts.

These talented veterans are joined by a cast of 42 including sophomore Allison Fennell as Belle and senior Connor McKenna as Lumiere.

With its powerful story of love and transformation, fabulous music and unforgettable characters, “Beauty and the Beast” is a delight for theatre-goers of all ages.
