Less is more for top New York makeup artist

New York Makeup Artist Raychel Wade had a glow about her as she guided a client through a one-on-one consultation at a recent La Prairie event at Nordstrom in Bellevue.

Her shine was not from the makeup she was wearing, but instead from the joy she illuminated as she helped clients escape the sometimes overwhelming world of cosmetics.

The founder and creator of Cheek to Chic combines her charismatic personality with her eye for color to help women feel younger and look their best.

She accomplishes this through a minimalist approach.

“I try to make a point to reach out to each individual client and make a genuine connection to better understand how I can help them,” Wade said. “It goes beyond the physical aspect of makeup. Giving women a newfound confidence is a remarkable thing. You learn that your job is bigger than you are.”

Wade began her career as a makeup artist for cosmetic lines including Nars, Bobbi Brown and Giorgio Armani. While selling retail, Wade was struck by the number of cliental who seemed overwhelmed by the makeup options available. In 2002, she launched Cheek to Chic, a company which focuses on makeup application and education with a focus on personalized attention.

“I had the idea to work with individual clients to make the whole makeup industry more accessible and fun,” Wade explained. “Ignorance was bliss back then. I knew I had a great idea and a niche needed to be filled so I just went for it.”

Wade was recently named the new Colour Ambassador for La Prairie, a high-end makeup brand based out of Switzerland.

“Everyone has their own individual style, but there is a collectiveness about women that is universal and I get reminded of that everyday I work. Everyone just wants to look good and feel young and be validated that they’re on the right track.”

Wade made a stop in Bellevue earlier this week to offer her expertise and share her insider picks for the must-have makeup staples. For Wade, less is more

“I like to see a woman’s face shining through,” she said.
