Jazz jams coming to Ground Zero

The Bellevue Boys and Girls Club teams with local jazz band Feb. 20 to provide a unique opportunity for area musicians.

Starting that Friday, club will be host monthly open jazz jam sessions at the Ground

Zero teen center. The host band for these sessions is the Small Jazz Orchestra, a father-son collaboration between Scott and Jonathan Small of Bellevue. The show runs from 7-10:00 p.m., and musicians of all ages and instruments are invited to sit in.

Each participant will have the opportunity to play at least two tunes with the host band, with plenty of coaching and support for those new to the jazz tradition.

Small Jazz Orchestra’s Scott Small is looking forward to some great performances.

“I’ve been amazed by the caliber of young

musicians I’ve met since I started collaborating with my son, Jon, and I’m stoked about this opportunity to do some unrestrained playing. If you’re a jazz fan, you’ll want to be there.”

Admission is free or participants, $6 for audience, or $5 with a canned food donation to the Bellevue Food Drive.
