Jazz jam sessions back at Ground Zero teen center March 13

Another jam session is set for Bellevue’s Ground Zero teen center March 13. The Bellevue Boys and Girls Club will team with a local jazz band to provide the opportunity for area musicians.

The kickoff session on February 20 was a success, drawing jazz instrumentalists and vocalists from local high schools, middle schools and the professional music community.

Small Jazz Orchestra’s Scott Small is hoping to build on the initial momentum.

Bellevue High School was well represented, but I’d like to see more musicians from Newport, Sammamish, Interlake, and other nearby schools,” Small said. “They have great jazz programs, and I know the players are out there. These sessions also are a great opportunity for professional players to build their reputation and attract students to their teaching practice.”

The show runs from 7-10 p.m., and each guest musician will have the opportunity to play at least two tunes with the host band.

Admission is free or participants, $6 for audience, or $5 with a canned food donation to the Bellevue Food Drive.

Ground Zero is located at 209 100th Ave. N.E.
