Hunter developed an interest in photography during his sophomore year of high school, when he took a beginning photography class to satisfy his art requirements. He was recruited for the yearbook, which led his becoming the staff photographer who photographed the Bellevue High Football team when they went to the state championships.

Photographing the action-packed game awoke a love of sports photography in Jack; he loved the emotion, conflict, and the drama. He joined the BHS yearbook the next year as their principal photographer.

After he graduated from Bellevue High, Hunter went on the University of Oregon, where he is a staff photographer for the student newspaper, the Oregon Daily Emerald. As the main sports photographer, he covers football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and track.

The Daily Emerald flew him to Pasadena, Calif. to cover the Rose Bowl, and following this event he covered the NCAA track and field finals.

In May, Hunter was awarded the 1st place in the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Associate Collegiate Newspaper Conference for best sports photography award, as well as taking an honorable mention for general photography. Hunter also has covered Seattle Sounders games for Publicola.net, a Seattle politics blog, and has been published on their web site and in the Bellevue Reporter.
