Fashion, TV celebrity Tim Gunn visits Bellevue | COLUMN

Last Saturday, Gunn hosted an amazing free Lucky Brand Fashion Show at Bellevue Square. This was his last stop on his national Lucky Brand Tour. The jeans, clothing and accessories company is sold at more than 183 stores nationwide.

When you hear, “Make it work” who does it make you think of? Tim Gunn, of course – the suit-clad star from “Project Runway” and “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style” who coined the phrase.

Last Saturday, Gunn hosted a free Lucky Brand Fashion Show at Bellevue Square. Center Court was packed. It was standing-room only, even on the third-floor balcony overlooking the stage.

This was the celebrity stylist’s last stop on his national Lucky Brand Tour.

He and his Chief Creative Officer Liz Claiborne hosted the fashion show featuring all Lucky Brand clothing and accessories, which are sold at more than 183 stores in the U.S.

When Claiborne came out and introduced Gunn, you’d think he was a rock star (which he is) the way people cheered and freaked out!

A cool feature of the show was that anyone could try out to model in it. Lucky Brand held an open casting at its Bellevue store, looking for women and men who have body types that the everyday person can relate to.

The winning models got to strut Lucky products head-to-toe on the runway (after receiving runway walk lessons from professional models). For an added perk, the models got to keep the fashions they wore. All of them did a great job.

Gunn spoke about the importance of style, proportion, and fit when it comes to getting your denim right. His tips included, “When your hips are wider than your waist, a low-rise will fit you better, ladies. Try it on.” What great advice. Not every woman knows the best kind of jeans for their body type.

“If you’re asking yourself, ‘Do I think I can pull this off? Chances are you’ve already answered that question,” Gunn said. So true. If you’re not comfortable in an outfit without the reassurance of friends, maybe you should wear something that you’d feel truly confident and beautiful in – no matter what.

One of my favorite fashion tips he told us had to do with the the maxi dress (“Don’t try to dress it up. That would look silly.”) I completely agree. I’ve seen people wear the long, flowing dresses with heels and fancy accessories to fancy events – those two just don’t go together!

It was such an extraordinary event. Oh, and I even heard him say his famous line, “make it work.”
