Chilis + desserts? It may be a winner

Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill is bringing back their popular dessert contest for Chile Fest happening in September.

To enter, participates must submit an original chili-inspired dessert recipe to Z’Tejas by Sunday, August 9. Finalists are requested to attend and prepare their dessert at Z’Tejas in Bellevue on August 15, when it will be judged.

The winning recipe will be featured in the special Chile Fest Menu, Sept. 8 through Sept. 27, with a portion of the sales benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

In addition to having their recipe on the menu, the winner will receive dinner for 10 to be prepared by Z’Tejas Executive Chef Noel Sanchez. Second prize will be given a $75 Z’Tejas gift card and third prize will receive a $50 Z’Tejas gift card.

“This competition gives the amateur chef the opportunity to try something different and discover the many uses for chilies” said general manager Matt Vega. “Not many people realize that our popular Ancho Chile Fudge Pie is actually made with chilies, I am looking forward to sampling the recipes that will be submitted.”

The recipe contest is part of the festivities being held by the restaurant as homage to the famous Hatch, New Mexico Chile Festival, which has been in existence for 34 years. Each year, Z’Tejas pays tribute to this culinary celebration by offering a special menu and a month-long lineup of activities.

Submissions may be emailed to recipes@ztejas.com or mailed to 3909 E. Greenway Parkway. Suite 295 Scottsdale, AZ 85254.

Z’Tejas is located in the Lodge at Bellevue Square on the third level next to the sky bridge. For more information on hours or to make reservations, call 425-467-5911 or visit www.ztejas.com.
