The 48th Annual 2011 Regional Emmy Awards shined at the Snoqualmie Casino earlier this month with 140 recipients from TV stations in Washington, Alaska, Oregon, Montana and Idaho. It was a star-studded night.
The 2011 Governor’s Award was presented to the family of Dave Niehaus – the voice of the Seattle Mariners since 1977.
Kathi Goertzen introduced Anchor Dan Lewis from KOMO 4 TV, who then received the Silver Award for 25 years of service in television. Station Excellence was awarded to KOMO 4 TV and James Clayton, VP/GM. The KOMO 4 TV Evening News Team, under the leadership of Senior News Producer Jill Mulligan, also received an Emmy Award for the best evening news in our market.
Television stations also were recognized for their community service, and this year’s winners included Holly Gauntt, News Director for KOMO 4 Problem Solvers; and Betsy Roberson, Manager of Community Relations at KING TV 5, who was recognized for Home Team Harvest.
Program Host/Moderator went to Meeghan Black, of KING 5 TV’s Evening Magazine. Best TV Anchor for the evening news went to Angela Russell with KIRO 7 TV.

Seamless in Seattle
Being a Project Runway fan, I had to attend Seattle Magazine’s first annual Seamless in Seattle Runway Fashion Show at the Seattle Art Museum.
For the past four years, Kate Calamasa, Fashion & Lifestyle Editor for Seattle Mag and her team comb the city for the best up-and-coming fashion designers ready to change the face of local fashion.
The top 12 contestants participated in a design challenge using Vitamin Water labels, and Gina Moorhead of Gina Marie took home top prize for her fabulous “label” dress design. As the winner, Gina will be featured in the September issue of Seattle Magazine.
The judges were Michael Cepress, renowned local fashion designer; Joan Kelly, founder of Fashion First; and Shelli Martin, stylist director for 7 Salon.
Other awards went to these emerging designers: Most playful attire – Malia Peoples; Best everyday wear – Kate Burt; Best Northwest-inspired aesthetic – Emily Riordan Roche; Most innovative menswear – Banchong Duoangphrachanh; Student Designer and Best Evening Wear – Kathy Sabin-Mensah; Honorable Mentions, Best Coat – Bri Seely; and Best reinvention of the little black dress – Angela Allen.
