Walkers need a warning

My wife and I walk the Bellevue sidewalks almost every morning. Frequently we are almost blown off the sidewalks by joggers or bikers who either don't bother to announce their presence or do so softly or incomprehensibly giving us no time to react.

So far, pure luck, we have not been injured.

We ask that these people take a lesson from skiing etiquette and announce clearly and loudly “on your left” or “on your right,” to let walkers know which side they will be passing on. We will be able to react accordingly.

One more thing – many people who walk Bellevue’s streets are elderly and might have difficulty hearing. Speaking in a normal voice while making an important announcement is making no announcement at all.
