After years of bouncing along West Lake Sammamish Parkway, I was delighted to get word from the city of Bellevue about overlays along that street. Sadly, but not surprisingly, I found it would be for the bike lane only, not for the street itself.
Those of us who drive the road can now pay for smoothing the ride for those who don’t need to license their vehicles. Is this the beginning of the McGinn-izing of Bellevue? Give the cyclists what they want, and let the drivers have what’s left, including replacing suspension systems.
I have to wonder if the staffers at City Hall who make these decisions ever drive the street at anywhere near the speed limits – in their own vehicles, which they’d have to fix. If they did, they’d know how truly terrible it is. I challenge them to find a worse roadway anywhere in the area.
