Ill-timed cartoon

Patti Luzzi’s Jan. 14 column asks “How will we ever convince young people to choose a life of public service?” Certainly not with cartoons like the one that ran on the Bellevue Reporter’s editorial page in the same issue.

How unfortunate that just a week after the shooting of a congresswoman at a public event in Tucson, the editor chose to run a cartoon that delivers a needlessly negative jab at our Legislature.

There are serious problems facing our state, and we’ve elected people from our communities to represent us and tackle the problems on our behalf. We should be grateful to those who are willing to serve and who are now “back in session.”

They deserve better than the collective sneer of this poorly conceived and ill-timed cartoon.
