Cartoon takes simplistic view on guns

The editorial cartoon in the Aug. 23 issue of the Bellevue Reporter presented an unbalanced and, I believe, inaccurate depiction of guns in our society.

 

The editorial cartoon in the Aug. 23 issue of the Bellevue Reporter presented an unbalanced and, I believe, inaccurate depiction of guns in our society.

An armed robber holding up a store with a “No Guns Allowed Inside” sign says to the clerk with his arms in the air, “Thanks for making my life easier.” Are we to assume that an armed clerk and customers would make the store safer for its customers?

Hundreds of American die every year in gun-related accidents. How high would those numbers climb with more armed citizens?

The subject is complicated and simplistic statements like this cartoon do little to enlighten anyone.
