Who does your political cartoons, Tim Eyman? Like Eyman’s misguided initiatives, your recent cartoon depicting Washington state government as a bloated sheep is an insult to every public servant in our state.
I doubt your cartoonist even knows one. I am not one, but I know a lot of them. They are all deeply dedicated to their jobs, work very long hours and get paid peanuts compared to jobs in the private sector that they could have if they weren’t so committed to public service.
For example the Director of Field Operations for the DSHS Children’s Administration is responsible for over 1,000 staff, who in turn are responsible for all child welfare, foster care and CPS in the state. This individual is compensated at about the same level as a first-line Boeing supervisor, responsible for maybe eight to 10 staff.
The front-line Field Operations case workers carry a case load about twice the national average for their function, yet the press and public scream every time there is the slightest failure in that system. Eyeman’s latest nightmare (I-1033) will increase their case loads even further.
