Bellevue Reporter presumptuous on recommendations

On the Opinion page, you recommend Initiative 1033: Vote No, Referendum 71: Vote Yes

A couple of observations. Why in the world would I care about how you want me to vote? How presumptuous of you. You are just one of my many neighbors (I guess), and you do not know my beliefs and goals, my financial needs, nor my background, my upbringing that cause me to vote the way I do.

Secondly, regarding Referendum 71, you state “Opponents of the legislation want to protect their own deeply-ingrained prejudices and fear of change.” Well, speaking of prejudices, how telling is your comment “another attempt by initiative junkie Tim Eyman?” Both come across to me as a display of generalization and indicates the author did not research why so many people feel the way they do.

It also displays a prejudice against those who don’t share the beliefs of the author. Very telling about the author and, again, why should I care about what the author believes? I’d be more interested in reading why he or she believes the way he or she does, the ramifications of the referendum and hearing opposing viewpoints.

The Bellevue Reporter seems to be turning into the Seattle P-I, both in editorial content and articles, and I stopped reading that paper a long time ago.
