The letter about Medina’s victory over a cell pole installation reminded me of my pole story. It began at about 8 a.m. as I drove down my street, 51st Avenue Southeast and encountered a huge pole on a trailer and a work crew.
When I asked them what was happening they said they were going to install the cell pole.I didn’t know any better so I did not ask them “where.” When I returned later that day I found that the pole was installed “there” period. No land-use sign had been erected or any other notification had been given to the people who now have to “see” it at all times and I see it every day as I drive down my street. About 15 homeowners have to look at it all the time.
I mentioned this to a friend who lived on Somerset and he told me how they got their pole He said it was supposed to be installed near Forrest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, but the neighbors had raised “so much hell” that they had to find another place and we were the lucky ones. This ugly thing is still there and it’s original planned location is proven by an identification placard that reads SITE NAME-FORREST RIDGE.
