Backstrom’s Bush/MLK column gave me goosebumps

Wow! I just read Walter Backstrom’s column in the Bellevue Reporter (“Would Martin Luther King hate George Bush?"). Excellent. It gave me goose bumps because of the truths so clearly articulated.

I agree with so many of his points:

1. Why is George Bush so hated? Especially by evangelical Christians in my church. It is beyond my comprehension, but God knows.

2. I wonder what all those people who hate Bush teach their children about hate … about forgiveness.

3. Nelson Mandela’s life, his belief in forgiveness, his belief in reconciliation, is a model for all the world to follow.

4. Although I did not vote for Obama, I pray for him and for his family, and for our country, as God’s scriptures instruct us. He is MY president and I pray for his success.

5. Yes, Martin Luther King would forgive George Bush and his mistakes because King was a Christian who lived a life of forgiveness.
