The old Bamboo Gardens in downtown Bellevue is coming down to make way for a seven-story AC Marriott Hotel, but owner Stacey Zhong said she’ll be back with a new location, new name and lightly tweaked menu by mid-February.

“It’s totally different. It’s a contemporary beauty with antique decorating,” Zhong said of La Bula, her new restaurant, opening in the Soma Tower at 288 106th Ave. N.E. “I’m hoping to move overnight, but I’m not sure if I’ll pull it off.”

Zhong said it made sense to change the name with the change in location. La is Chinese for “spicy” and “bula” means not too spicy. The old Bamboo Gardens site will be replaced with a 234-room hotel, a joint partnership and concept created by AC Hotels and Marriott, expected to open in October.
