The city has cleared the design for a seven-story AC Marriott Hotel on Northeast Second in downtown Bellevue to offer upscale lodging downtown.

Sited at 202 106th Place Northeast, the 234-room hotel is part of a joint partnership and concept created by AC Hotels and Marriott in 2011. AC Hotels owns around 80 properties in Spain, Italy, France and Portugal.

The proposed 110,000-square-foot facility includes onsite valet parking in a 106-stall underground garage.

Previous plans submitted to the city and printed by the Reporter in May indicated plans to begin construction this month and complete the hotel next October. That will first require the razing of of the 8,500-square-foot Bamboo Gardens on the property and obtaining construction permits.

Marriott International describes its AC Hotels as including public space with a linear design that features curated museum-quality artifacts, a lounge with cocktails and small plate offerings and guest rooms with a “sleek European-inspired design with sophisticated furnishings and dramatic retail-inspired lighting.”.Designs include  private frontage along Northeast Second Street, adjacent to the bar and lounge for year-round weather protection for outside patio seating.

The building is designed in a “U” shape “for a more visually interesting structure” when viewed from 106th Place Northeast and Northeast Second, according to the design review. It will also enhance the natural lighting into each of the hotel rooms.

The hotel is being constructed down the road from where the 17-story Bellevue Marriott Hotel is being constructed on 110th Avenue Northeast. That hotel is slated to open in the fall, while the Marriott AC Hotel plans to begin construction in September with an October 2015 completion date.
