Bellevue-based Expedia posts revenue gains in 3rd quarter

It appears that despite the poor economy, people still want to travel. Bellevue-based Expedia Inc. announced its third quarter earnings Thursday, and the company, which owns hotwire.com and hotels.com, earned 16 percent more in revenue over this period last year.

Bellevue-based Expedia Inc. announced its third quarter earnings Thursday, and the company, which owns hotwire.com and hotels.com, earned 16 percent more in revenue over this period last year.

The combination of increased revenue from advertising and increased bookings for both flights and hotels drove the company’s success in the last quarter.

The company saw a 14 percent rise in transactions overall over the same quarter last year, which included nearly $1 billion more in gross bookings.

Internationally, Expedia kept up its strong growth. Growth in international books grew at 17 percent, a slight gain over its domestic operations. According to company documents, international transactions make up 38 percent of the company’s business. Revenue grew at 18 percent internationally, versus 15 percent nationally over the last year.
