The Coal Creek Family YMCA will hold a series of classes for children and families in the coming months.
Basketball classes, from March 7-30, will give children ages 3-6 a taste of sports through games that help develop their hand-eye and foot-eye coordination.
Classes in Tae Kwon Do will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in March and June. The classes will teach life skills, such as goal setting, integrity, confidence, discipline and respect, and are taught through fun drills.
Creative Movement – Mommy/Daddy & Me will be offered on Thursdays in March and June. The class will let parents and kids enjoy expressing themselves through movement and exploring their own creativity. Recommended ages are 1-3 with parent/guardian/chaperone.
Tumbling – Mommy/Daddy & Me will be offered on Wednesday in March and June and give children from walking stage to age 3 fun singing, climbing, jumping and playing with mom and/or dad. Children must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or chaperone.
A youth basketball league will be held from March 28 to May 28. Weekday practice and weekend game times vary. Children will learn sportsmanship as well as basketball rules and skills. Games are played with age-appropriate equipment and lowered hoops. Parent volunteers are needed for each team and parents/chaperones are encouraged to participate alongside their child.
Children will meet for one hour during the week for practice and are encouraged to dress in athletic attire and bring their own basketball. Teams are formed by the practice location and time that best fits families’ schedule, and one-hour weekend games will be on a rotating schedule through the season. Recommended ages are K-5.
