King County Flood Control District Board of Supervisors has adopted a 2011 budget totaling $37.25 million and a six-year capital improvement program. Within the new budget are two amendments successfully inserted by King County Council Vice Chair Jane Hague.

“The amendments I offered are intended make sure Bellevue taxpayers get a return on their investment,” Hague said.

The first amendment adds a line to the criteria for the Flood Advisory Committee for reprioritizing the 6-year CIP list. It requests a regional connection between where the taxes are collected and where the projects are located.

Hague’s second amendment states that the Advisory Committee shall not defer or reduce funding for the Coal Creek Parkway Project (CCPP) located in Bellevue. The CCPP had been deferred in the past due to the Green River Valley/ Howard Hanson Dam emergency. Bellevue contributes approximately 10 percent of the tax collections for flood control.

The King County Flood Control District is a special purpose government created to provide funding and policy oversight for flood protection projects and programs in King County. The Flood Control District’s Board is composed of the members of the King County Council.
