St. Louise students respond to Japan disaster

Second grade students at St. Louise had just finished studying about Japan when the earthquake and tsunami struck the country. Feeling they needed to take action, the second grade published an all-school flier asking school families for cash or check donations for their “Support Japan” project.

For each donation given, the students created “Origami Whale Pins” which they offered to each donor, no matter what amount was given.

St. Louise collected donations and has issued a check of the total proceeds to Catholic Relief Services, which is responding in Japan through its partner Caritas Japan, the humanitarian agency of the Japanese Catholic Church.

The students teachers are Elvia Martinez and Annie Albee.

St. Louise School is a Catholic school located in the Crossroads area of Bellevue.
