Rev. Philip D. Wallace
Rev. Philip Wallace of Bellevue, the former pastor at St. Louise Catholic Church in Bellevue, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, in Seattle.
Wallace was born July 20, 1936, in Sault St. Marie, Ontario, Canada. He was raised in Sault St. Marie and graduated from Lorretta Academy in 1956. Following high school he furthered his education at St. Jerome’s University in Kitchener, Canada.
Wallace entered the Maryknoll Seminary. The Maryknolls are a missionary-based organization that educates priests to work in developing countries and support others in that endeavor. Following his ordination in 1965, he worked in Chicago, Boston and Tanzania before settling in Seattle in the early 1980s.
In Seattle he served in the Maryknoll house and at Seattle University. He transitioned from the Maryknoll Missioners to priestly duties for the Seattle Archdiocese, becoming the pastor at St. Francis Catholic Church in Burien in 1982.
In 1998 he was appointed as pastor of St. Louise Catholic Church in Bellevue where he served until his passing.
In 2009 his love for Tanzania, travel and the outdoors culminated in the climbing of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with his niece, Patty.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Bill Wallace of Bellevue, Sheelah (Eugene) Zapf of Edmonton, Alberta and Rosemarie (Alexander) MacDonald of Kingston, Ontario; nieces and nephews, Julie (Dan) Touvond and Janice (Ken) Spicer of Kingston, Ontario; Kristine Lee of Smith Falls, Ontario; Patricia (Robert) Parfitt and Bill (Tanya) Zapf of Tampa, Fla.

A time of visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29 at Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home, 425-392-6444. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Burien. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31 at St. Louise Catholic Church in Bellevue. A committal service will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Seattle.
