A fire late Thursday, which investigators blame on an unattended candle, destroyed a $400,000 home in the Tam O’Shanter neighborhood. No injuries were reported.

At 7:43 p.m. several neighbors reported smoke and flames coming from a 2,800-square-foot house in the 1400 block of 185th Avenue Northeast.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames throughout the home, threatening two adjacent structures. It took firefighters 50 minutes to control the fire, with slight cosmetic damage to one of the adjacent homes.

The home was reported to have smoke detectors, however none were operable. The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced family of three.
