Overlake Hospital Auxiliaries raised a record $800,000 at its 2012 Bandage Ball gala March 24. The money will go to build a new, state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which will care for premature and the most vulnerable babies born at Overlake.

“It was a phenomenal evening and we are thrilled that this community – which founded this hospital more than 50 years ago – turned out in record numbers to raise a record amount of money,” said Molly Stearns, Overlake’s vice president of fund development and executive director of the foundation and auxiliaries. “The brand new NICU will be a tremendous asset to Overlake.”

The intensive care unit’s improved training and technology will allow Overlake, in partnership with Seattle Children’s, to care for newborns as young as 26 weeks gestation, keeping more babies close to their homes on the Eastside.

The gala marked the official launch of the private fundraising campaign for the NICU to raise additional major gifts from local individuals and foundations. KOMO 4 Morning News Anchors Brad Goode and Peggy Bunker served as auctioneer and emcee, respectively. The Overlake Hospital Auxiliaries’ Bandage Ball is the largest fundraising event of the year to benefit Overlake.
