A group of women in town for a convention found themselves stuck in the Mercer Slough after GPS directions sent them into the urban wetland.

Police said the three women, who are from Mexico, were traveling on Bellevue Way when they received directions from the GPS of their rented Mercedes SUV. Police said they attempted to make a U-turn but mistakingly turned on to a boat ramp and drifted into the slough just after midnight Wednesday morning.

No one was injured, but the car was submerged in the slough’s waters, where dive teams worked to retrieve it Wednesday morning.
