Bellevue won their third straight on Wednesday, 5-1 this time over the Juanita Rebels.
The Wolverines, who are beginning to live up to their aspirations as expert run manufacturers, scored their five runs on only two hits and also overcame three errors in the game to pick up the victory.
While the bats were quiet for the most part, head coach Jordan Nilsen’s squad again received a strong performance from a starting pitcher, this time from junior Drew Quinlin.
Quinlin took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and did not issue a walk on the day while fanning four Rebel batters. Jeff Van Orman worked the last two-thirds of the seventh inning for the Wolverines, who have now won three straight and sit at 3-1 in conference play.
Jack Meggs and Reid Wagner had the hits for Bellevue and both got their money’s worth as Meggs cracked out a solo homerun to begin the bottom half of the first and Wagner checked in with a triple in the fourth.
Next up for Bellevue is Mercer Island, who the Wolverines will face on Friday at Island Crest Park with a 6 p.m. start.
Interlake dumped by Lake Washington
It was all Kangs on Wednesday at Lake Washington High School as the visiting Saints were unable to hit their stride against LW starter Bob Cruikshank, losing by a final score of 10-0.
Interlake squeaked out only a pair of hits and watched the home team build a 6-0 lead after three innings. LW tacked on two more in both the fifth and sixth innings to coast to the victory.
Carl Snaring took the loss for Interlake, who will next play Juanita at home on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Knights let one slip to Beavs
Ballard took advantage of some late heroics at the plate, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to jump in front of visiting Newport and escape with an improbable 4-3 win on Wednesday.
Newport starter Jared Fisher was tagged with the loss and allowed ten hits and four runs, all earned.
Juniors Billy Sahlinger and Mason Paul both both had a two hit day in the loss and Cole Wiper went 1-3 with a homerun. The loss takes the Knights to 5-3 in conference play with the Crown division leading Bothell Cougars coming in for a 4 p.m. game on Friday.
Sammamish upended by conference leading Mt. Si
The Wildcats pounded out 12 runs on 13 hits and answered the bell both times the Totems came calling, ultimately taking a 12-3 win back to the Snoqualmie Valley.
After getting three in their half of the first, Sammamish tried to claw their way back with two in the bottom of the second only to see their efforts go for naught. Mt. Si would come back to add a pair in the third and would continue to play add-on all afternoon scoring in every inning except the second to leave with the win.
Sammamish will attempt to end their five game losing streak on the road on Friday against Liberty.
Bellevue softball notches another win
Behind seven scoreless innings and 12 strikeouts from pitcher Emily Fleischman, Bellevue won their fourth straight, 7-0 over Lake Washington. Fleischman scattered five hits and walked only a single batter, pounding the strike zone and daring the Kangs to test the Bellevue defense.
But after a throwing error on the first play of the game, the Wolverines were flawless in the field, giving a desperate LW squad no opportunity to gain a foothold offensively.
Bellevue got on top in the second before adding three more in the third to take control.
Katie Savard had a 3-3 day at the plate for Bellevue, knocking in a pair of runs and also reaching base on a walk. Anjani Briggs went 2-4, scoring a run and bringing in two more while Marika McCarthy contributed two hits of her own while scoring two runs.
Bellevue (5-1 KingCo, 8-2 overall) now sits alone in second place in 3A/2A KingCo, behind only unbeaten Juanita.
The Wolverines travel to Sammamish for a 4:30 p.m. start on Thursday.
