Thunderbird Little League All-Stars win state championship

The District 9 champs from Thunderbird won the state tournament with a pair of wins over Walla Walla

Thunderbird Little League is home to the state champions of the 9/10 year old baseball, after the All-Stars from Bellevue won the state tournament title 6-5 over Walla Walla Valley in Richland.

The Thunderbird squad, which captured the District 9 tournament to advance to state, won its first three games at Badger Mountain Park in Richland to reach the semifinals.

A 6-2 win over the District 4 representatives got things started, before T-Bird came back to beat District 12 in a 19-8 win the following day. A 9-6 win over Mill Creek’s District 1 champs sent them to the first of three games against District 5 winner Walla Walla, and ended in their only loss of the tournament 9-4.

But a 14-4 victory over Mill Creek earned Thunderbird a rematch, and an 8-3 win evened the teams with one loss each before the Bellevue team brought home the state title trophy in the winner-take-all final July 20.
