Newport gymnasts finish fourth at 4A KingCo/District meet

Bencke finishes first in the all-around, with Nilsen in second.

The Newport gymnastics team finished fourth at the 4A KingCo/District meet with a team score of 168.9 on Feb. 8 at Newport High School.

Newport gymnast Anna Bencke finished first in the all-around with a 37.625. Bencke finished first on beam (9.4) and vault (9.475) and second on bars (9.35) and floor (9.4). Newport’s Bella Nilsen finished second in the all-around with a 36.9. Nilsen finished second on beam (9.25), tied for second on vault (9.4) and third on floor (9.35).

Both Nilsen and Bencke qualified for the state meet in the all-around competition. Junior Maddy Thompson also qualified for state on vault and floor.
