Newport and Interlake football teams to compete in lower classification

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association released its finalized classification numbers for the 2020-2024 cycle on Jan. 26. The changes will impact the Newport and Interlake football teams starting in the fall of 2020.

Newport and Interlake both successfully petitioned to drop down their football programs, with their other sports remaining in the same classification as before. Newport will continue to compete at the 4A classification, but the football program will compete at the 3A level. Interlake will remain in the 3A classification, with its football program now competing in 2A.
