A group of Seattle businessmen plan to construct a full size running replica of Bill Boeing Jr’s hydroplane, Miss Wahoo.

A team of professional and volunteer boat builders will construct the replica Miss Wahoo at the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum’s Kent facility, consulted by designer and builder Ron Jones, whose father Ted designed the original Miss Wahoo. The museum plans to launch the new Miss Wahoo at the 2009 Seafair Race in Seattle.

The original Wahoo was destroyed in a 1966 crash in Washington, D.C., racing as one of Bernie Little’s early Miss Budweisers.

Miss Wahoo was named for Mrs. Boeing’s hometown of Wahoo, Neb.
