Interlake, Newport and EC golfers headed to state

Bellevue-area schools will be well-represented at the Class 3A golf state tournament thanks to a strong performance at the SeaKing District 2 tournament at Riverbend Golf Course on May 12.

Bellevue-area schools will be well-represented at the Class 3A golf state tournament thanks to a strong performance at the SeaKing District 2 tournament at Riverbend Golf Course on May 12.

The top-21 golfers at the district tournament move on to the state tournament May 20-21 at Shuksan Golf Course in Bellingham.

Kelly Lee was the high finisher from the Bellevue area, as the Newport golfer finished in eighth place, shooting an 81 on the par 72 course. Gabe Barnow of Interlake finished in a four-way tie for ninth place with an 83, while Kelley Toy of Newport and McKenzie Ballod also qualified for state by tying for 13th with an 85.

Ballod’s teammate Jessica Parker shot an 88 to finish 17th, while Eastside Catholic teammates Ashley Danford and Kimmie Koehler tied for 18th by shooting 89.

Newport teammates Nicole Lomax and Hannah Ahn took the final two state spots by finishing in a tie for 20th. Both shot a 90.

Bellevue’s Catelyn Webber barely missed the cut, shooting a 91 and finishing in 22nd place. Webber will serve as the first alternate to the tournament.

Holy Names captured the team title with 43 points. Interlake finished fourth with 22 and Newport finished fifth with 21.5.
