Newport Knights

Coach: Travis Whitaker, 11th season

Last year: 20-7, lost in Class 4A state tournament

Key losses: G Betsy Kingma (Seattle Pacific), F Caitlin Bennett, G Randi Boseman (Evergreen)

Key returners: PG Chanel Cambronero, Sr.; P Marikah Wright, Soph.

Impact new players: P Casey Schoenlein, Fr.; W Abbi Gobel, Fr.

Player to watch: PG Chanel Cambronero. Three-year starter returns poised to breakout as Knights No.1 option with departure of Kingma, Bennett and Boseman.

Outlook: Knights graduated 75 percent of the minutes played from last years team and 80 percent of the scoring – including the program’s all-time leading scorer in Betsy Kingma. Wright and Schoenlein should provide a tough interior that Newport hasn’t had in the past. Coach Travis Whitaker says if young team can survive early schedule and come together, there is a potential for a tough playoff run.

Bellevue Wolverines

Coach: Ron Tinnin, 4th season

Last year: 16-9, lost in Sea-King District tournament

Key losses: G Kelly Meggs (Cal Irvine), G Catelyn Webber, G Casey Warendorf, G Taylor Brazen, G Alyssa Gilbert

Key returners: G/F Natalie Anderson, Sr.; G/F Quinn Gordon, Jr.; G Taylor Cooke, Jr.; F Shelby Fanning, Jr.; G/F Katie Savard, Jr.; G/F Alli Cahill, Sr.

Impact new players: Alexis Neuman, Jr.; Kate Sangeorgzan, Jr.; Yahel Freeman, Sr.; Carly Best, Soph.; Kate Holmes, Fr.; Holly Warendorf, Fr.

Player to watch: G/F Natalie Anderson, Sr. Bellevue coach Ron Tinnin thinks Anderson should be in the running for the KingCo 3A/2A MVP award. She’s averaged just under seven points per game so far this season.

Outlook: Wolverines, at 1-6 thus far, have struggled early in games – they’re being outscored 97-76 in the first quarter so far this season. The good news for Bellevue is that they still have time to turn things around. Eight returning players with varsity experience should help right the ship.

Interlake Saints

Coach: Scott Marcum, 8th season

Last year: 11-13, lost in district playoff

Key losses: F Sarah Anderegg, F Litia Ngauamo, G Maddy Schiappa

Key returners: P Margo Parker, Soph.

Impact new players: G Cate Mueller, Fr.

Player to watch: P Margo Parker, Soph. Parker, a 6-foot-1 presence inside, should get more shots this season with the departure of Anderegg.

Outlook: Loss of Anderegg, a three-time All-KingCo First Team member and Interlake’s all-time leading scorer, will hurt. But young team could be poised for another 2A playoff run if they can survive through tough conference schedule.

Sammamish Totems

Coach: Jay Broadenax, 2nd season

Last year: 2-18, last in KingCo 3A/2A

Key losses: G Alayna Herring, G Abeer Al-anzi

Key returners: G Taylor Ferleman, Soph.; G Natsumi Naito, Soph., W Kendall Dougherty, Sr.; P Kelly Darling, Sr.

Impact new players: P Estefany Figueroa Alvarez, Sr.; F Lauren Wing, Soph.

Player to watch: G Natsumi Naito, Soph. Sophomore guard leads team in scoring, assists and steals. Naito has a long, bright career in front of her.

Outlook: Totems have size between 6-foot-2 Kelly Darling, 6-foot Madison Cooley and 5-10 Lauren Wing. Team should be – and has been – more competitive this season as there is more depth on the roster than years past. Still a lot of work to be done for Sammamish, but the young team is loaded with potential.

Bellevue Christian Vikings

Coach: Jade Hayes, 5th season

Last year: 19-7, finished 8th at the Class 1A tournament

Key losses: None

Key returners: C Maren Haines, Sr.; G Alina Valle, Jr.; PG Bree Oldham, Jr.

Impact new players: None

Player to watch: C Maren Haines, Sr. Haines, a 6-foot-3 center, was a first-team all-league selection a year ago. Bellevue Christian’s leader in scoring, rebounding and blocks should turn in a solid senior season.

Outlook: Vikings will be a powerhouse yet again – just look at Dec. 17’s 74-7 win against Overlake. Not a stretch to think Bellevue Christian will contend for the 1A state title. Vikings one of few teams in state to not lose a single player from the year before. Team will need to get by powerhouses Lynden Christian and Seattle Christian to win title. They will face off with Lynden Christian on Dec. 29.
