Bellevue’s Jimmy Trull placed seventh in the nation in at the USAW Cadet Freestyle National Championships last week in Fargo, N.D.

Trull’s top-eight finish at 215-pounds earns him All-American honors as well as a “stop sign” – the trophies named for their resemblance to the road signs.

Trull also finished 10th at the USAW Cadet Greco-Roman National Championships.

“Jimmy has put in his work and made many sacrifices to reach his goal,” said Bellevue High School wrestling coach Tom Ovens. “Words can not and do not describe the pride I feel for Jimmy and his accomplishments.”

Trull, who will be a junior at Bellevue in the fall, was one of three in his weight class to be undefeated after the first day of freestyle competition. His biggest victory came over top-ranked Dawson Peck of Pennslyvania.

Trull was one of five members of Team Washington Cadets to become an All-American. By earning All-American honors, Trull becomes Olympic Training Center certified, allowing him access to train in Colorado Springs, Colo., with the Olympic wrestling coaches.

Over 1,000 Cadets (15 and 16-year-olds) and 1,200 Juniors (17 and 18-years-old) competed in the tournament, which had 47 states represented.

Trull qualified by winning the Northwest Regionals in March. Team Washington sent 40 Cadets and 32 Juniors to the event.

Sammamish’s AJ Leitch qualified as a Junior in freestyle at 105.
