Myrtle Ophelia Hayes

Myrtle Ophelia Stigger Hayes was born May 9, 1922, to Mr. and Mrs. Holly (Alice Kennebrew) Stigger in Pocahontas, Mississippi. She was the fourth of seven children. Her educational achievements included: a high school diploma, a bachelor’s degree, and a master’s degree in education from Jackson State University. She was a third grade teacher in the Jackson, Mississippi Public School System. In the spring of 1945, Myrtle was united in holy matrimony to the late Isaac Hayes, a union that was blessed with five children – Maxine, Joyce, Gwendolyn, Isaac, and Sterling. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Isaac Hayes; son, Sterling Hayes; sisters, Lyonnette and Beatrice; and brothers, Gay, Atwood, and Sigrest.Myrtle parted this earth on February 24, 2013. She is survived by three daughters – Dr. Maxine Hayes of Bellevue, Washington; Joyce Hayes Giles of Detroit, Michigan; and Gwendolyn Hayes of Jackson, Mississippi; one son, Isaac Hayes of Jackson, Mississippi; grandsons, Leon Williams of Washington, DC, and Kevin Williams of Bellevue, Washington; granddaughters, Kristen Giles and Erica Giles of Los Angeles, California, and Tamika Buchanan Dancy of Detroit, Michigan. A memorial service is planned for May 10, 2013, 1:00 p.m., Neighborhood Church, 625 140th Avenue Northeast, Bellevue, Washington.
