Mary Grace (Powers) Julien

Mary Grace (Powers) Julien passed away June 17, 2010 in Bellevue at the age of 93. Mary was born September 20, 1916 in Seattle to George Andrus Powers and Katherine Anne Welch Powers. She attended St. Anne’s School, Holy Names Academy, and graduated from Seattle College (now Seattle University) in 1939 with a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciencees. Mary married Frank Felton Julien on April 14, 1941 in Seattle. They lived on Queen Anne Hill for decades, owners of Julien’s Pharmacy, and active in St. Anne’s Catholic Church and School activities. Upon Frank’s retirement, the couple moved to Kirkland, where they were active volunteers at the Kirkland Senior Center. After Frank passed away in 2005, Mary lived in Bellevue until her passing after a long illness.Mary’s passions included family, music, travel, crafts and games. She loved the piano, but couldn’t resist playing the violin, the ukelele and the accordion. Her crocheted vests are legendary, and she never turned down a card game. Mary is survived by her brother William (Joyce) Powers of Seattle, sons Robert (Judy) Julien of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Donald (Beverly) Julien of East Wenatchee, Paul (Katia) Julien of Libreville, Gabon, daughters Suzanne (Stefan) Beckmann of Victoria, British Columbia, and Katherine (Robert) Barrows of Bellevue. Mary also has eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, brothers Michael, John, George, David, Edward and sister Helen. A celebration of her life will be held at Sunset Hills Funeral Home in Bellevue on Saturday, June 26, at 2:30 pm. Remembrances may be left at www.sunsethillsfuneralhome.com
