Worker rescued from fall into SR 520 pontoon | UPDATE

The Bellevue Fire Department is currently staging a confined space rescue.

UPDATE: The man who fell into the pontoon has been retrieved by Bellevue firefighters, according to fire department community liaison officer Richard Burke.

Rescue workers lifted the man, a contractor working on the SR 520 bridge, out with a Sked device.

The man sustained non-life threatening injuries to his lower body in the fall and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Washington Labor and Industries will be following up with a workplace accident investigation.

Original Story: A worker on the Washington Department of Transportation’s State Route Highway 520 bridge project has fallen into a pontoon, according to the Bellevue Fire Department.

The man fell 15-20 feet into the hollow concrete flotation support.

The department is currently staging a confined space rescue.
