‘Wild’ events promise family fun this weekend in Bellevue

Two fun family events are happening this weekend in Bellevue. On Saturday, April 27, sheep being shorn of their winter coats are the featured attraction at the Kelsey Creek Wild-n-Wooly Sheep Shearing. The Bellevue Rotary 10K/5K is on Sunday.

 

Two fun family events are happening this weekend in Bellevue. On Saturday, April 27, sheep being shorn of their winter coats are the featured attraction at the Kelsey Creek Wild-n-Wooly Sheep Shearing. The Bellevue Rotary 10K/5K is on Sunday.

Wild n’ Wooly Sheep Shearing: Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. rain or shine at Kelsey Creek Park, 410-130th Pl. SE.

Activities include shearing and spinning demonstrations, children’s crafts, tractor rides, pony rides and food. Started in the early ‘90s, the annual event typically draws 10,000.

Admission is free, but the costs vary for food and some activities ($1-$5). No ATM is available on-site. Free shuttles are available from/to Wilburton Park & Ride, 720 114th Ave. SE and Bannerwood Sports Park, 1630 132nd Ave.

The 6th Annual Bellevue 10K/5K Run/Walk & Kids Dash — Sunday, 8-10 a.m. at Bellevue Downtown Park/Downtown Bellevue. Three events in one include:

· Overlake Hospital 10K Run, a challenging new 10K (6.2 miles) route;

· The Y Family 5K Run/Walk (3.1 miles) event for the whole family; and

· Kids Dash, a non-competitive half-mile walk or run open to all kids 10 and under.

Residents and visitors should plan for some road closures in and around downtown, including:

· NE 1st/2nd St between 102nd Ave NE and Bellevue Way

· Bellevue Way from NE 4th St to 112th Ave

· NE 2nd St from Bellevue Way to 114th Ave SE

· 114th/118th Ave SE from NE 2nd St to I-90

· 108th Ave SE from I-90 to Bellevue Way.

Participants are invited to visit the Starbucks Race Village on race day to visit event sponsor booths and vendor exhibits after the event for the post-race party. There will also be a bib raffle drawing after the race.

The Bellevue 10K/5K Run/Walk is sponsored by the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club. The event raises funds for Seattle Children’s Autism Center, Kindering plus Rotary projects that benefit children and families on the Eastside and around the world. The City of Bellevue is a co-sponsor.
