One day after reporting two Bellevue spas allegedly used for prostitution had been labeled chronic nuisances, police report Sunnyday Spa’s property owner has terminated the business’ lease. Sunnyday Spa is expected to vacate the building at 4038 Factoria Blvd., by June 15.

Police report Taiwan i-Spa has not responded to a notice mailed out to business on May 13, which gave it 15 days after receipt to respond in a good faith effort to resolve the matter, nor did i-Spa respond to the notice attached to its facility on Wednesday. It’s possible i-Spa is still operating at 214 111th Ave. N.E.

Original Story

Two spas alleged to have been used for prostitution were put on notice by Bellevue Police Chief Steve Mylett, using the city’s new chronic nuisance code.

Both spas met the threshold of having three nuisance complaints filed against them within 60 days, including three cases of prostitution at Taiwan i-Spa/Jolee Spa and two at Sunnyday Spa, according to a police news release, adding the third nuisance at Sunnyday was a violent dispute between two female employees.

The city council passed the chronic nuisance ordinance in April to help police deal with businesses used for prostitution and human trafficking, as well as places like bars where drunken and unruly behavior occur.

Police sent out notices to Sunnyday and i-Spa on May 13 that gave them 15 days to contact the police department and begin working on corrective actions.

The notice received by Sunnyday cites two incidents of prostitution between late February and March. Both involved a masseuse offering an undercover officer sexual favors, according to the notice.

The notice to i-Spa states there were three incidents involving alleged prostitution from January to late March, all involving offers of sexual favors to undercover police. The registered owner is identified in two of the cases as being the one making the offer, according to the notice.

Police are working with an attorney for Sunnyday, but another notice had to be posted at the i-Spa location on Wednesday.

Sunnyday Spa is located at 4038 Factoria Blvd., and Taiwan i-Spa is located at 214 111th Ave. N.E.
