What is the most pressing issue in Bellevue, and how would you deal with it?
The most pressing issue the city faces is the East Link light rail alignment. Sound Transit has proposed a surface alignment through Bellevue that fits within its budget, but would have disastrous impacts to our homes, businesses and roads. It said Bellevue can save itself by coming up with $700,000,000 to pay for a more expensive tunnel. That is an unacceptable choice. I will not raise taxes on Bellevue’s residents or businesses to pay for Sound Transit’s tunnel. I will continue to work with Sound Transit to find a cost effective, balanced solution.
What makes you the better choice for the council than your opponent?
My vision for Bellevue focuses on three priorities: economic recovery through job creation, excellent public safety and continued improvement to our transportation system. I have the skills and experience necessary to lead Bellevue toward this vision.
I have received endorsements from Mayors Grant Degginger and Connie Marshall; from Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna to Democrat Sen. Fred Jarrett; from Eastside Business Alliance to the Firefighters Union, and hundreds of others. I hope you’ll agree with these leaders who have concluded I have the skills, experience and vision necessary for the job, and that you’ll entrust me with your vote. www.kevinwallace.com.
