Police took a 32-year-old Lynnwood man suspected of a DUI into custody after he allegedly struck seven vehicles and attempted to carjack two other vehicles, including one with a child inside.

“It is a suspected DUI involving drugs. What drugs, we can’t tell,” said Bellevue Police spokesperson Seth Tyler.

At approximately 1:05 p.m., Bellevue Police received a call that several vehicles had been hit on Factoria Boulevard. Upon arriving on the scene, police found the suspect being held down by four bystanders after attempted to break into and carjacking a vehicle containing a women and child.

After the man pulled her driver’s side door handle off while trying to enter her vehicle, the women managed to grab her child from the backseat and run.

The suspect had also tried to carjack another vehicle being operated by a man. A witness reported seeing the suspect attempt to break the car’s window with his bare hand, but police could not confirm that.

The suspect was transported to Overlake Hospital by police after complaining of pain in his arm from being held down. He has been charged with a DUI, seven hit and run counts, two counts of attempted carjacking, and assault.
