Knitting group helps needy babies

Needy babies got some helping hands when women from Stitches From The Heart donated close to 200 personally knitted blankets, sweaters and caps Sept. 22 to Overlake and Evergreen hospitals and the Eastside Baby Corner.

Needy babies got some helping hands when women from Stitches From The Heart donated close to 200 personally knitted blankets, sweaters and caps Sept. 22 to Overlake and Evergreen hospitals and the Eastside Baby Corner.

The 15-member group, a nonprofit charitable organization, meets every Tuesday at Crossroads Retirement Center, knitting together from 2-4 p.m. The center donates the space for the activity, plus a room to hold the collection of yarn and needles.

Twice a year the group holds a tea, with each member bringing the collection of items she has knitted or crocheted. One member, age 92, brought 10 items she knitted to the recent tea.
